Description
The 1858 Flying Eagle Cent is part of one of the shortest-lived and most historic coin series in American numismatics.
Produced by the United States Mint and designed by James Barton Longacre, the Flying Eagle cent introduced the smaller cent format that replaced the large copper cents used in earlier decades.
The coin features a graceful eagle in flight on the obverse and a wreath surrounding the denomination ONE CENT on the reverse. Because the series lasted only three years (1856–1858), it remains a highly collectible type coin for many collectors.
The 1858 Flying Eagle Cent was designed by James Barton Longacre.
