Description
The 1866 U.S. Shield Nickel was the first five-cent coin struck in copper-nickel, introduced to replace the silver half dime. Designed by James B. Longacre, this coin features a shield on the obverse symbolizing national unity, with the denomination on the reverse.
This example shows a slightly off-center strike, a minting error caused by minor misalignment during striking. While subtle, this error makes the coin unique and desirable among collectors of error coins and early U.S. nickels.
Each coin offered by CoinNazal is carefully examined to ensure authenticity and accurately described.
